Acrylic Art Tutorial 1

River wharf in lower strid woods near Bolton Abbey

Acrylic painting of the river wharf in lower strid woods near Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire . It is not actually step by step but it shows from the under painting in stages to the finished painting, i only used acrylic paints with no other mediums

I started with blank acrylic paper , no drawings at all.
Started on the top right with a mix of ultra marine and burnt umber working to the left side to a mix of cad yellow with a touch of ultra marine and white. For the water i used the same dark colour then put in burnt sienna then bottom left just the dark mix.

Added the shape of the trees with ultra marine and cad yellow and as i moved to the left added a bit of white to the mix. Then it was time to add some tree reflections and the far banking.

Trees  added and a bit more work to the far bank

Should have left it like this maybe but i decided to add a muck path down to the rive side

The foreground is a bit darker than shown , it is just how the light caught it when taking the photo.  I added a few more pebbles down by the river and also put in a glaze of burnt sienna in the water to make it look as though some pebbles were under the water, also a glaze of just white in the distant water to give it some light caught from the sky.

Well after leaving it over night i decided to add some shadows to the foreground

Hope this may be of use to some one

All the best
